The number of people visiting the Citizens Advice Bureau for debt advice has doubled in the last year.
The amount of debt is rocketing up and the lenders are becoming increasingly more aggressive in their recovery tactics. Many customers are now being threatened with unlawful debt recovery methods. Most lenders are adding charges and fees to customer’s debts due to their failure to pay on time.
People are so worried about paying their debts that they are going without food and heating in order to make their payments. Debt is having a negative impact on peoples mental and physical health.
It was revealed that one in ten of the people visiting the Citizens Advice Bureau owed more than £50,000. The largest amount owed was £240,000. These figures excluded mortgage debts.
If you have several debts and are struggling to pay them, or you are only managing to pay the minimum payments, then a debt management plan may help you. Your monthly payments could be reduced and you will no longer be chased directly from your creditors for money.
